Clear Leadership in Latest Phoronix Linux Distribution Comparison
The latest Phoronix test results are out, and Clear Linux once again demonstrated strong performance. For this comparison, Phoronix evaluated Clear Linux 19110 against CentOS 7, openSUSE 42.3, openSUSE Tumbleweed, Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS, and Ubuntu 18.04 Daily releases using a number of enterprise-focused benchmarks.
Phoronix noted that “Intel spends a lot of effort optimizing Clear Linux in the name of performance and hence why it's always an interesting performance target.” Those optimizations were evident on benchmarks such as Perl, PyBench, PHPBench, R Benchmark, x264 video encoding, and Redis, where Clear Linux had a measurable – sometimes significant – performance advantage. “Clear Linux has even managed to make Gzip run faster,” the recap added.
Some benchmarks such as Tensorflow and Caffe were tested on select systems, with Phoronix noting, “Here we see Intel's optimizations continuing to pay off with much greater performance than what's found out-of-the-box on Ubuntu.”
