I cannot get any graphic display with i915.preliminary_hw_support=1 under debian jessie kernel 4.2 or under.
I can get 1920x1080 only via grubGRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX without i915.preliminary_hw_support=1.
With debug i915.preliminary_hw_support=1 i915.modeset=1 i915.verbose_state_checks=1 drm.debug=0x1e log_buf_len=1M
I get in the logs
