As an umbrella project, dLeyna hosts a cluster of middleware components for the implementation of Digital Media Servers, Digital Media Renderers, Digital Media Controllers and Digital Media Players. These readily available APIs enable consumer electronics system builders to reduce Build-of-Material costs and time-to-market.

Introducing dLeyna

BY Mark Ryan ON May 29, 2012

Welcome to the dLeyna project. dLeyna is a suite of middleware components designed to simplify the task of writing DLNA enabled applications. There are currently two separate pieces of middleware in the dLeyna project, media-service-upnp and renderer-service-upnp. These components can be used to implement Digital Media Players and Digital Media Controllers, and to easily integrate two-box push into applications. For more information about dLeyna and its components, please see our About page. Currently, both components are functional, but it would be fair to say that they are still in the early stages of development and that many more features have yet to be added. Please consult the media-service-upnp TODO.txt and the renderer-service-upnp TODO.txt file, to get an idea of our immediate plans for dLeyna. Also, keep an eye on the dLeyna page at There will be more updates over the coming weeks.

What's a dLeyna?

dLeyna is simply a made up word that is pronounceable and that contains the all important letters: D, L, N, and A.
