StarlingX: Open Edge Infrastructure StarlingX is a new open source edge infrastructure project hosted by the OpenStack Foundation. StarlingX aims to create an open source software stack to improve the state of edge cloud infrastructure for carrier, provider, and IoT networks. Intel and Wind River® are releasing the source code for Titanium Cloud Release 5 as the initial “seed” code for StarlingX. This demo will show the first release of StarlingX.
OpenStack Cyborg with FPGA Cyborg is an OpenStack project that aims to provide a general purpose management framework for acceleration resources like GPU, FPGA, ASIC, NP, SoCs, NVMe/NOF SSDs, ODP, DPDK/SPDK, etc. This demo shows the integration of Cyborg into the OpenStack environment to manage the hardware resource of FPGA within the cluster. With the function of EPA traits in OpenStack, we are able to the identify the compute nodes supporting FPGA acceleration. Meanwhile, Intel Open Programmable Acceleration Engine (OPAE) driver enables FPGA plugging into the virtual machines. Heavy workloads like transcoding and deep learning based on Intel FPGA SDK for OpenCL are setup to highlight the performance improvement gained from FPGA acceleration.
Kata* Containers Kata Containers is the successor to Clear Containers and the industry standard solution for securing container workloads in a light weight virtual machine. These demos cover different Kata use cases to appeal to different types of users and to inspire them to try kata containers on their deployments as well as get involved in the project. The following demos will be shown on a Clear Linux host OS. 1. DirtyCOW - Break out of a container workload to show why Kata containers is important. This one will be shown on Ubuntu and only for people brand new to securing containers with a VM. 2. OpenStack Zun - This demo shows how to launch Kata container workloads using the Open Stack interface. 3. Multi-kernel kubernetes - This demo shows how each pod can get its own kernel enabling new use cases 4. Graphics device pass through - This demo shows how to pass a GPU directly into a kata container to run a workload 5. SRIOV for enhanced network performance between containers on different machines.
Intel SmartNIC (Cascade Glacier) Integration with OpenStack Neutron and Ironic This demo shows Intel SmartNIC integration with OpenStack Neutron and Ironic at scale. SmartNIC on baremetal node provides hardware offloading of Open vSwitch which is controlled by Neutron remotely. The usage of Intel SmartNIC is integrated with OpenStack on baremetal node so that cloud users can take advantage of SmartNIC through openstack UX without hassle. The baremetal node can communicate with both VM and baremetal nodes seamlessly over Neutron tenant networking without CPU overhead. With effort of scalability, Neutron is enhanced for scalability for Ironic.
Advanced Analytics for Cache Acceleration Software We will demonstrate a novel, storage analytics and automatic cache tuning technique using an algorithm developed at Intel Labs to automatically determine which I/O classes benefit most from being cached in a SSD. The storage analytics will employ a class-based cache emulation model to make fast “what if” predictions. This demo will show the first important step towards an intelligent fully auto-tuning cache for complex workloads such as MySQL*, Ceph* and Hadoop*. Advanced storage telemetry that is unique to Intel’s Cache Acceleration Software will be used to build and execute the models. This demonstration includes new Intel patents and will give a preview of Intel® Cache Acceleration Software 4.0 launching in the first half of 2019. The demo will show three different workloads that range from most to least cacheable and will provide a suggested cache policy tuned to the workload.
Orchestration of Composable nodes through OpenStack Nova The demo focus on a new nova virt driver integrated in Nova to manage composable infrastructure, demostrated using intelRSD APIs. This innovative implementation allows the cloud manager persona to handle composable hardware seamlessly through the standard nova APIs and enables the Tenant to integrate on its cloud services composable hardware using the same relation Nova->Hypervisor->Instance.
