This Project Provides: power and thermal management source code
The Value of the Intel ® Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework (Intel® DPTF) Project
This is a solution to help enable thin, quiet, and cool platform designs. Intel DPTF hosts various platform level power and thermal management technologies that help with this goal. Intel DPTF provides mechanisms for platform components and devices to be exposed to individual technologies in a consistent and modular fashion thus enabling a coordinated control of the platform to achieve the power and thermal management goals.
Who It's For:
System builders creating thin, lightweight, mobile platforms with Chromium.
Project Specifics
This project is distributed under the Apache 2.0 license. The complete DPTF package consists of several modules. At the bottom layer there are ESIF (Eco-System Independent Framework) Linux kernel modules that interact with both system BIOS and upper ESIF layer. The upper ESIF layer is a user space application that provides an ESIF shell environment, allowing users to issue ESIF commands directly to system BIOS, and/or load DPTF policies. At the very top layer there are DPTF policies in the form of shared libraries, which can be loaded through ESIF shell. Together all these components form the entire DPTF package.
DPTF requires firmware support (BIOS, embedded contorller, etc.) in order to function. This release will only run on DPTF enabled platforms, additional platform support is in planning.
About Intel Involvement
Intel is one of the largest contributors to the Chromium project, investing in features, user research, performance and power management so Chrome OS, Chromium, and the Chrome Browsers are the most compelling on the Intel® Atom(TM) processor and the Intel® Core(TM) processor.
