I'm having trouble with persistent lines across the LCD display on my Samsung NP900X3E.

On top of the window manager area is a white line extending apx 1/6 of the screen. This turns to a line across the full length of the screen when the window manager is not running (f.eks during shutdown, boot etc).

When I fire up firefox, thunderbird and gnucash, any double lined tables and horizontal lines get distorted, and make flickering lines across the screen. If I reduce the size of the window and keep it on the left side of the display, the lines disappear. As I move the window to the right, they become increasingly apparent. The smaller the size of the window, the further right the "threshold" for the lines are.

If I keep the windows up so that the lines show for awhile, they "burn" into the display, slowly fading to ghost lines and eventually disappear after several minutes (they also show up during boot etc).

This does NOT happen in Windows 8, but I've tried Linux Mint Olivia 15 Cinnamon, Ubuntu 12.04.2 Gnome, Knoppix 7.2 KDE and they all display the same behaviour. In my linux mint install I've tried to install the downloadable .deb drivers from intel (31.7.13 release), and also kernel and gfx update through the repository. none of it helps.

On Linux Mint I've tried both of these (the latter after the update):

Linux version 3.8.0-19-generic (buildd@allspice) (gcc version 4.7.3 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.7.3-1ubuntu1) ) #29-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 17 18:16:28 UTC 2013

Linux version 3.8.0-27-generic (buildd@roseapple) (gcc version 4.7.3 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.7.3-1ubuntu1) ) #40-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jul 9 00:17:05 UTC 2013

Xorg version is 1.13.3
CPU: ntel(R) Core(TM) i5-3337U CPU @ 1.80GHz

• Hi lash,

That particular laptop has seen a fair bit of discussion here on the boards, resulting in an upstream bug filing. Check out this thread-- I believe there a few others as well.

Wow thanks so much! 3.10rc5 did the trick :) funny that no-one really seem to have a clue what caused it though.
