  • Hello

First of all I would like to tell you since I am new here that I am also new to Linux. But since I study computer science I know things or two also I get things pretty quickly. But I am having problems with controling brightness on my laptop. I can't chage it in sttings nor I can change it with FN combination. I know that I have to install drivers if I want to control my screen brightness (at least in Windows 8 that solved the problem). I have installed Linux Graphics but it didn't enabled me to control my brightness. I downloaded the newest installer (Intel Graphics installer 1.0.4) run that and than did what it says to do with signatures for ubuntu and than run the installer. If anyone knows the solution to this problem I would be very grateful or if I did something wrong. I am sick of Windows and would really like to enjoy Linux on my new laptop. So, if anyone can guide me or say what to do or even provide with link to informations that could help, would mean a lot to me

Thank you and have a nice day.

  • Hi - can you try adding acpi_backlight=vendor to your kernel command line options? You should be able to do this at the grub boot prompt when starting up the laptop (incidentally, you don't mention the model of laptop there that I can see - that information is often very useful in looking up solutions or laptop specific problems)
