  • Hello,

I have poor graphics performance on my laptop using Intel HD 4000 (integrated graphics) and NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M (dedicated graphics) on Linux.

The best example of this poor graphics performance are the Youtube videos that always flicker, either on normal size or full sreen.

Can you please help me troubleshooting this and hopefully get my Intel HD 4000 working flawlessly?

  • Hi - let's open by gathering some information about your system:
    - what distribution are you running (and which version)?
    - which kernel are you running?
    - have you installed the graphics driver updates from 01.org (if they're available for your distribution)?
    - do you know which GPU is in use for Xorg? (check in /var/log.Xorg.0.log or similar).

  • Hello,

    1 - As of today, I'm using ubuntu-mate-15.10-desktop-amd64.

    2 - I'm using the 4.2.0-30-generic kernel.

    3 - I've installed the intel-linux-graphics-installer_1.4.0-0intel1_amd64 and the NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-352.63 packages.

    4 - Here's the content of /var/log/Xorg.0.log:

  • Ok... is the i915-4.3.3-4.2.0-dkms package installed?
I would expect it to be if you ran the installer.

Also, check to see if the i915 update built correctly - dkms status should tell you that.
Next, make sure the i915 module is loaded:

    modinfo i915 | grep filename

should list a path with 'dkms' and 'updates' in it.

  • If you switch to the old graphics acceleration method (uxa) instead of sna with something like this in your xorg.conf:

    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Intel Graphics"
    Driver "intel"
    Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"
    EndSection

    does the glitchiness go away?

  • Hello,

Here's the content of my xorg.conf file, can you tell me exactly what to change?

  • Try adding:

    Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"

    After the line that says:

    Driver "intel"
