  • Hello !

I can not fix my VGA problem since few weeks and your community may resolve it !

I'm new to Linux and i did install the 16.04 LTS version in my HP mini 110-3500.

No more HP program and any other system inside.

Before Linux 16.04 LTS, i was connecting an old BENQ F93GX external screen but from now "no signal received" message appeared on it when switching it on.

I did install few utilities from this and there, made some manipulations, but well i still in the dark.

Below what pop-up with the command "lspci -k | grep -iA2 VGA"

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Atom Processor D4xx/D5xx/N4xx/N5xx Integrated Graphics Controller
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Atom Processor D4xx/D5xx/N4xx/N5xx Integrated Graphics Controller
        Kernel modules: i915

I don't know and nobody seems to know what to do in Ubuntu french forum, may you will ?

    Wishing you a nice day.

    Thanks

  • Hello.  Does any VGA monitor work on this system when using Ubuntu 16.04 LTS?  Does any other monitor work correctly?

VGA support has been working for a long time so I don't have any quick solutions to offer.

  • Hello Paul,

    Thanks for your answer.

No other monitor was connected and/or worked.

My BenQ did worked great under the original system installed.

"No signal detected" pop-up on it when switching it ON and then nothing more...

Just tried a hold Futjitsu VGA screen but same message appeared.

  • Could you run "xrandr" in a terminal and share its output with us (both with and without the VGA cable connected to the monitor)?

  • Hi Vivek,

    Sure !

    1 - xrandr without VGA connected :

xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
    Screen 0: minimum 1024 x 600, current 1024 x 600, maximum 1024 x 600
    default connected 1024x600+0+0 0mm x 0mm
       1024x600      75.00*

2 - xrandr with VGA connected and switched "on"

xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
    Screen 0: minimum 1024 x 600, current 1024 x 600, maximum 1024 x 600
    default connected 1024x600+0+0 0mm x 0mm
       1024x600      75.00*

    Same thing for both !!!!

  • Well... that looks like the VGA connector isn't being detected at all, which is strange. If you can boot the machine off a live USB image, does the VGA output work then? Is it disabled in the BIOS or something?

  • Hi Vivek,

Sorry for the being late to answer.

What do you mean by "boot the machine off a live USB image" ?

I will look in the Bios if i can see anything "strange" but i'm afraid that installing Lubuntu erased the HP software (with bios option inside ?).

  • Hi Vivek,

Did look in the Bios and can not find anything i could switch "on" or "off" about the VGA stuff.

Bios error 501 is the message.

Written to go to the HP web site to get informationfor getting the HP Bios.

Sadly i think that having installed Linux made a fatal crash of it.

Anybody here had this trouble on HP mini 110 ?

  • Most distributions these days provide a "live image" which allows you to boot up directly from a USB stick without installing anything on the machine itself.

The error appears to be about some HP efi tools being deleted: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/BIOS-APPLICATION-ERROR-501/m-p/1609699/highlight/true#M101653

Doesn't sound like a major problem from that description.

  • Hi Vivek,

Ok i understood what this mean.

I did go to the link you mentionned above but i could not find the "HP Quicklock (2)" only a "Quickweb" but seems not to change anything.

Will post on the HP forum about the VGA problem, may be they can fix it because i did read that my computer have already been sold with

    Linux installed instead of W7starter.

Will let you know for sure.

Thanks again and have a nice day.
