  • OS: Ubuntu 13.10 x86_64
    Kernel: 3.8.11
    X.Org: 1.14.3
    Driver: 2.99.904

I'm trying to use an old CRT-TV (PAL) as a display via VGA.

    Modeline:
    Modeline 720x576i 13.875 720 744 808 888 576 580 585 625 -hSync -vsync interlace

    Xorg.0.log:
[2.995] (II) intel(0): switch to mode 720x576@50.0 on pipe 0 using VGA1, position (0, 0), rotation normal [3.532] (EE) intel(0): failed to set mode: Invalid argument [3.582] (WW) intel(0): failed to restore desired modes on VT switch

The Modeline works without problems using a NVIDIA graphics card. I tried different Ubuntu and driver versions without success. Standard displays with standard modelines connected via VGA are working without any problems.

I will provide more logs and configs if necessary.
