Hi - could I check a couple of details?

Are you on ubuntu 12.10 (quantal)?
If so, where's this kernel from? The most recent I can see on my test install is -28-generic,
and you seem to have -29-generic.

Looking at the -28-generic kernel I do have available, it does indeed appear that the most recent kernels in 12.10 break compatibility (as fasr as the i915 backport is concerned). Looking into possible fixes.

The backport definitely works with -17-generic, I haven't established where the break occurred yet.

    Ok, I've grabbed the log.

The newer distro kernels seem to have broken compatibility for the i915
driver backport in this release of the Intel Linux Graphics stack - We're
currently investigating if a fix is possible - thanks for reporting the problem.

so for the bug , is there any eta?

I am going to upgrate my computer from ubuntu 12.10 to 13.04 , and also for linux kernel , it will be upgrade automaticlly , so I am not sure the driver compatibile with the latest kernel with 13.04

I'm currently testing the packaging for the fix, I guess the ETA is a couple of days till it hits the repos - if you upgrade to 13.04 you won't need the backport anyway, so this bug won't affect you (any more).

I will test the fix once you upgrade, since that maybe some other people will also have this question

and then I will upgrade my computer to ubuntu 13.04

  • Hi edwin,

After a few delays, the patched 12.10 i915 packages have been posted to the repository.
