What is OpenVINO™ toolkit?

OpenVINO™ toolkit, short for Open Visual Inference and Neural network Optimization toolkit, helps to fast-track development of high performance computer vision and deep learning inference in vision applications. The toolkit enables easy heterogeneous execution across multiple types of Intel® platforms providing implementations across cloud architectures to edge devices.

What does OpenVINO™ toolkit opensource version include ?

Open source version includes source code for Deep Learning Deployment Toolkit (comprises of Model Optimizer, Inference Engine and plugins for Intel® CPU, Intel® Integrated Graphics and heterogeneous execution) and Open Model Zoo (contains 20+ pre-trained models, samples and model downloader).

What is Intel® Distribution of OpenVINO™ toolkit?

Intel® Distribution of OpenVINO™ toolkit is the free commercial product offered by Intel Corporation with additional, proprietary support for Intel® FPGAs, Intel® Movidius™ Neural Compute Stick and other hardware accelerators from Intel. It is available to install as a binary package and includes traditional computer vision libraries like OpenCV*, OpenVX*, Intel® Media SDK as well as OpenCL* drivers/runtimes and FPGA bitstreams.

How does the Intel® Distribution of OpenVINO™ toolkit differ from open source version?

Main difference is in the Deep Learning Deployment Toolkit component - open source version includes support for only Intel® CPU, Intel® Integrated Graphics and heterogeneous execution and does not include: FPGA, VPU, or other plugins for Inference Engine which are proprietary to Intel and supported by Intel® Distribution of OpenVINO™ toolkit.

The Model Optimizer, Inference Engine with Intel® CPU, Intel® Integrated Graphics and heterogeneous plugins as well as Open Model Zoo are the same in both versions.

Does Intel Corporation have plans to open source the proprietary plugins? If so, what is the timeline?

Intel is exploring this option and others but no decisions or announcements are being made at this time.

What operating systems are supported by OpenVINO™ toolkit? How does it compare with the Intel® Distribution of OpenVINO™ toolkit?

For the list of supported operating systems per hardware, please see System Requirements. The CPU and Integrated Graphics sections apply to both OpenVINO™ toolkit and  Intel® Distribution of OpenVINO™ toolkit, while the other sections are specific to the proprietary supported offered by Intel® Distribution of OpenVINO™ toolkit.

Can I get binaries for open source version ?

No. You would need to build from the source code. Please follow instructions given on the README file.

Where can I download the pre-trained models mentioned in Open Model Zoo?

Pre-trianed models can be downloaded from https://download.01.org/openvinotoolkit/.

How can I get support for OpenVINO™ toolkit?

For support, please raise your questions at https://stackoverflow.com/ with tag: #dldt, #open_model_zoo or #openvino. To raise any technical issue, please use https://github.com/opencv/dldt/issues or https://github.com/opencv/open_model_zoo/issues pages on Github.

Is the support model different for Intel® Distribution of OpenVINO™ toolkit?

Yes, for support on Intel® Distribution of OpenVINO™ toolkit, please visit the Intel Software Forum.

What is the outbound license for the github repositories of OpenVINO™ toolkit?
