In-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems help drivers manage navigation, phone calls, climate control, windows, doors, and other parts of the driving experience. The latest IVI systems include features like voice assistance for hands-free control. The open source Android* OS helps enable a turnkey IVI solution with a familiar, intuitive user interface.

Project Celadon is an Android open source platform for Intel ® architecture, which allows Tier 1s, OEM manufacturers, and ecosystem partners to:

  • Accelerate Development. Developers can benefit from Project Celadon open platform enablement and lower time to market by developing automotive IVI solutions on the latest Android releases. Celadon supports the latest Android dessert from Google, providing critical bug fixes and security updates in the kernel.
  • Improve Efficiency. Project Celadon is an Android open source platform for Intel® architecture, which also allows developers to leverage Intel® hardware acceleration and provides the flexibility to customize to the latest Android applications.
  • Scale reliably. Project Celadon can be used to build a software reference stack for an IVI automotive deployment.

Automotive IVI solution.

Developers can use the Intel® NUC with an Intel® Celeron® Processor J3455 (Apollo Lake) as a starting point to prototype for the Intel Atom® A3900 series automotive processors typically used in the final IVI system. Intel® NUC is a lower cost option that can be used for Android IVI development until production systems are ready at Tier 1. This helps accelerate IVI development and keeps software features ready for production IVI systems being built.

Tier 1s and Car OEMs can start their product development with Project Celadon on standard, off the shelf Intel® NUC hardware platform and then move the software stack to Intel’s Automotive Platform, Gordon Ridge MRB developer kit.
