Rig

Rig is a user interface design tool with development in its early phases. Rig takes its cues from the gaming industry, moving application designers into a new realm of responsiveness and design conventions, expanding their app design creativity. The current UI design model has been relatively unchanged for decades: a designer uses a powerful desktop system to create an experience targeted at a phone or tablet or another client with very different screen sizes or capabilities. Rig provides real feedback cues to the designer based on the targeted device.

The Value of the Rig Project

Rig is a user interface design tool with development in its early phases. Rig takes its cues from the gaming industry, moving application designers into a new realm of responsiveness and design conventions, expanding their app design creativity.

The current UI design model has been relatively unchanged for decades: a designer uses a powerful desktop system to create an experience targeted at a phone or tablet or another client with very different screen sizes or capabilities. Rig provides real feedback cues to the designer based on the targeted device.

This connected system means that the design cycles are shortened by more accurate design work upfront, allowing the designer or developer to maintain control over their experience vision. Rig’s underlying code taps into the processor infrastructure and harnesses the capabilities of a device’s GPU, creating a much more responsive sensation for the end customer.

Because of Rig’s advanced engineering, neither the design nor the developer need to be a graphics specialists to tap this deeper functionality in the target device. Rig provides it for them. Designers and app developers can access this deeper functionality in the targeted device simply by using Rig.

Who It’s For

This project is open to UX design and development teams looking to take fuller advantage of modern system and graphics hardware than traditional technologies afford them.

Project Specifics

Rig is written mostly in the C programming language and is distributed under the MIT license. Initial development of Rig has been focused on Android.

About Intel Involvement
